AFTER A LOT OF WAITING WINTER IS BACK!
We have had a long dry autumn in Verbier, with temperatures dropping at night but sunny days for weeks and weeks.
So much so that we all started wondering if winter would ever start…
But now it definitely has.
We had heavy snow on Monday night and stunning views when the clouds broke on Tuesday.
Plus the long-term forecasts confirm there is more to come.
THE FRESH SNOW
Outside the office in Verbier we arrived to about 20cm of snow on Tuesday – more than was forecast.
But as well as a decent fall in resort there was more up the hill.
SNOW MAKING WAS ALREADY IN FULL SWING
In the last few summers TeleVerbier has been investing heavily in the snow making facilities in resort.
The result is a system of snow canons (and pipelines underground) that mean they can take advantage of cold weather and make snow early to make sure we have the best base possible on the pistes.
Naturally everyone in resort has been talking about the snow falls and a TeleVerbier employee confirmed that they started making snow last week and the cannons were running all night from Wednesday in Lac des Vaux, with the snow-making also starting all the way down to Ruiniette on the weekend.
Then the snow came…
THE FORECAST
The long-term forecasts are all looking pretty healthy too.
All the weather apps are predicting heavy snowfalls next week with a real cold snap (it could as low as -22 at night up at Attelas…).
So the outlook is suddenly very, very promising indeed.
(And it’s definitely time to start planning your next ski trip…).
Meanwhile you can check out the live webcams here.
UPDATE!
Wednesday 13 November 18:25
Televerbier have just confirmed they are opening at weekends starting this Saturday. See – we told you winter was coming…
We are delighted to announce the start of the Verbier 4Vallées ski season on Saturday 16 November!
The first snow has covered the heights of the ski area as well as the heart of the resort, bringing a white coat that heralds the start of the season and the excitement of putting on skis.
The Lac des Vaux piste is ready to welcome snow enthusiasts for the first turns of the season!
Thanks to the sub-zero temperatures, our snow guns have been able to produce quality snow for optimum skiing conditions.
What’s more, we’ve had around twenty centimetres of fresh snow at Lac des Vaux, enough to get the season off to a flying start.
Early bird skiers will be rewarded with a coffee and croissant on the first day of the season. There is a 20% discount on the Verbier sector 1-day ski pass for all weekends in November.
